 The Different Types Of Wastewater Screens?   

 

There are three main types of wastewater screens in wastewater treatment plants:

 

  • Coarse

  • Fine

  • Micro

 

There are several types of wastewater screening even within these categories. The difference in the screens is based on the size of their screening openings and other mechanical traits.

 

 Coarse Screening in Wastewater Treatment Plant 

 

Coarse screens in wastewater treatment plants have openings from the range of 6 to 150 mm. Coarse wastewater screens contain many bars, wires or rods that are placed parallel. They also include plates with circular or rectangular perforations. It is often known as a "bar rack" and is utilised to weed out coarse solids in the wastewater treatment plants, like rags and large items that might clog or damage other equipment.

 

There are two types of coarse screening methods:

   

 Hand-cleaned Coarse Screens in Wastewater Treatment Plant   

 

The hand-cleaned coarse screens are utilised in smaller wastewater treatment plants and facilities where the wastewater is hand-ranked. This method is great for backup when it is a high flow time.  Catenary Screens

 Continuous Belt screen   

Continuous belt screen operates with numerous rakes. It is one of the most high-tech. It enhances efficiency and increases functionality. Continuous belt screens is a type of self-cleaning and continuous operation. This screen is used when dealing with delicate or solid loads.  

 

 Fine Screening in Wastewater Treatment Plants   

Fine screens are when wastewater treatment plant utilises screens with openings of less than 6mm in their process. These screens are created from perforated plates, wire cloth or wedge wire. This part of the screening process is employed to remove finer solids that the coarse screens cannot capture.

 

 

These are three fine screening types:

 

  • Drum Screen

  • Step Screens

  • Static Wedge Wire Screens

 

Micro-screening in Wastewater Treatment Plants   

Micro-screening is when wastewater passes through the smallest screening in the wastewater treatment plants. Micro-screens are usually low-speed drum screens. This drum in the micro-screening process has a smallest opening with the lining of filtering fabrics. The openings are 10 to 35µm. Wastewater enters the drum, and the retained solid waste is collected and disposed of.
